The screaming had ceased. As Arik ran through the entrance, there, in the first large room that stank of death and days old fecies, Shernof's blade cut through an already-wounded undead creature. "Quickly!" Shernof shouted.
Instead of silence now, some kind of magical chanting echoed through the keep from somewhere below. In truth, the ruins were clear of corpses in the first common area that once housed stables and guards. As they passed through the hallway and into the courtyard toward the entrance to the basement, several Goblin bodies and one large undead creature could be seen lying on the ground. Whether the creature had killed the decaying corpses or the men they were here for had could not be told in passing so quickly.
Arik had managed to catch up to the ranger who waited only a few short seconds for the other man to make it the rest of the way. "Come, my friend. We are close!"
Hurrying down the stairway to the basement, the two men were greeted at first by wariness, but at the sight of Shernof, the Human and the Gnome eased their tensions and stared at them silently. Less than a minute later, the Dwarf likewise made his way down the stairs after passing the same sights as the other two.
As they looked about the men, only three could be counted in addition to the pup. Littering the ground were also the corpses of three other undead creatures. Still though...one man was missing...and from the looks of it, one of the Humans, Jack, had been badly wounded.
