Again, Arik smiled, "A moment if I may?" ((I cast Detect Evil immediately...I obviously concentrate on Mr-new-to-the-party )) ((Assuming that my Sense Motive and Detect Evil come up clean then I proceed)) A whispered prayer to the Red Knight and warm energy coursed through the priest's body. His face remained serene with eyes half closed and that soft smile never left his face. It seemed as if time paused in its journey, but in reality was only a short moment before Arik spoke again, "Lurrin. Your family has shed my family's blood and dramatically reduced the livelihood of both my kin and our employees. I will not allow this same result in regards to my fiance's family and the Wolves will oppose this Blood War. You and I have known each other in battle. If this is your wish, to reject the wreckless path of your family, then I would welcome you to know us in battle again, but this time as a friend." With that, Arik stood, walked over to the man and stuck out his hand, "Brother?"

((This guy's clean. He's chaotic good )) Lurrin's smirk was completely wiped out of his face by Arik's gesture. This was a huge surprise to him: someone who had lived hating his family, to so readily welcome him as a brother was, at least, reckless. "Well, well... Arik Kolendur, sworn enemy of my house, offers his hand in brotherhood? Geesh, I really should start taking your family on a completely different level. First your sister, now you?" He looked up and closed his eyes for a moment. "Forgive me for this, Annie." He shot up a punch to Arik's face, trying to catch him offguard. (( Let this one go through... Dramatic punchline, if you will xD ))

The move was entirely unexpected and all that Arik was able to do was take the brunt of it across his brow and crown...the man did not fall, but he staggered backwards, his hand dropping towards the hilt of the death dealing instrument at his side, but the hand stayed itself. He wasnt sure what the hell the man was hoping to accomplish unless it was another trip to the earth courtesy of his shield, but Arik forced himself to compose his emotions. The smile returned, "You still punch like a maid, but the offer stands. Brother?" The hand shot out again towards Lurrin.

Jonathan chimed in instantly and Shernof looked on edge. "That will be enough violence, thank you. If you are looking for allies that is most unnecessary!"

This time Lurrin smiled back and grabbed Arik's hand. "Had to avenge my honnor. Wussy stuff like that, y'know. Brother!" He nodded wearily and sat back on his chair. "The Drachens are planning to hit all of the Preten's warehouses non-stop, so as to drive them out of business. They'll stop when the Pretens surrender or until they are dead. They are considering taking care of the chief of the family and of the one that deals with the trading... damn, keep forgetting the name. Meh, the way I see it, my father won't send more than 30 men to do the dirty work, since he can't let down his guard, but 30 men are still 30 men. I can fight them blind-folded, though, so as to make it a just fight." The smirk bounced back into his lips.

Serol did more than look on edge. His hand reached into the pouch he had worn so long as if on its own accord. In a moment the ten foot chain dangled in his hand. The ranger might serve Johnathan Preten and be forced to accept this act of cowards, but Serol was under no such obligation.
His eyes danced with fire at the man who had punched. It was only the fact that he had only just met both men that stilled his chain's fury. He did not know either well, but with news of war and invasion violence so soon was most unwelcome.

"As I see it then we have two options. Take it to the King or take it to the streets. I think everyone here knows which of the two options I prefer."

It was now Jervis who spoke up his mind seemingly lost in thought before. He ignored the punch and even the weapon drawn by the cleric as interesting, but unimportant. He had never seen the cleric use the weapon, or even draw it (as the gnome is a late sleeper.). But tensions were high in the room.
"No." he said quite suddenly. It was not in any way a caution to Serol to hold his chain, as he was not even looking at the cleric but rather to a spot somewhere to his left. "I don't know who this man is either, nor do I know why he hit the other fellow. Quite interesting though, now that I think about it."
"I don't know." he answered again to an unheard question, "I suppose it is possible Serol will kill him, he's killed other things since we've known him. If he does, I would very much like his ears."
He chuckled slightly, "Yes! I thought so too. Very fine ears indeed."

Arelian sat in a chair in a relaxed position lost in deep thought absent mindedly rubbing the two coins he found in the keep suspended on the chain.

Lurrin's right eye began to twitch. "Fine... ears?" He looked at Arik as if searching for an explanation. "What's with this little guy?"

(((ROFL...now that was a good laugh to get the afternoon rolling. BTW...by week...Lurrin means tenday. ))) Jonathan looked slightly disturbed at the little Gnome's musings to some other voice. He shook it off and went back to the business at hand. "Both options shall be pursued actually. And so we have a dilemma. Shernof, I will have to ask you to stay for certain. Richard will be pursuing action from the King...and sympathy should the Blood War actually be initiated. I understand that delivering your friend back to his family is of the utmost importance...but it will have to be fast. I have no right to command this, but I must make this request. You are the only capable men I can ask to aid us in this with so soon a deadline." Jonathan then looked to Arik, "I will be pursuing the option for 'taking it to the streets,' as you've so aptly put it. But I need to investigate these claims and determine whether they are true or we are being had first and foremost. Richard is very well protected, but I am not. Shernof will stay to guard me. And...though I have no right...I would ask that you leave the Wolves to aid in the defense of my home should it come under attack without warning. If you feel uncomfortable traveling without them, I understand." Jonathan took another deep breath before continuing on, "Now...we will operate as if we have only eight days remaining. It is a day's ride from Lethtar to Illul. So that your men can make that ride, Arik, without delay, I will have any supplies you wish for them to have that they cannot carry on horseback delivered in a shipment to Illul before you return from your journey. That should help you get there more quickly and provide a base of operations when you begin your work in Illul. That means I need you back here, for updates and safety purposes, in six days. With the Gnome's pony in tow, Shernof estimates two and a half day's travel, minimum. That should give you a day in your destination before you must turn back around. Will that be satisfactory for everyone?" "Oh, and," Jonathan added, "You will be taking your new friend Lurrin with you. I cannot have him seen about the streets here. For one, I do not wish him assassinated if he is on our side...and for another, I do not wish him feeding anyone information about our actions should he be a spy."

Perhaps it was because he was still upset with Lurrin, or perhaps it was because topics were being discussed above his head as to who this man was and what danger he posed but the cleric's normal tact slipped and he turned to Johnathan, "Then we are being conscripted?" the word twisted his mouth to displeasure and it was suddenly obvious to the whole room the large cleric had yet to put the chain away.

Arik looked to Serol, "Can you find it to be comfortable in traveling with this man? If you have reservations, share them please, for I trust your judgment. Indeed, that goes for all of you. Make your wishes known that we might all be on the same field."
"I will leave the Wolves here, taking only Alain to help us. I would propose that Lurrin, Thorgar, and I accompany you on this endeavor and in return that you would help us with this situation. Perhaps in our proximity to Ilul, we can also sell the remainder of your goods for a better price. What say you to this?"
