"A wise course of action, me thinks. But must we really take the damned pony? All it will do is slow us down... how about we take the weird gnome in one of our saddles?" He smirked divishly, crossing his arms and leaning back on his chair.

(((The Drachens, as you know, are one of the other families in Lethtar...and throughout a lot of Lantan actually. They exert a lot of power...as for what they did to Arik's family, I'll let him fill you in there. They wanna start a Blood War, you've gathered, which is obviously a bad thing for most folks. Anyway...I'll let Arik explain it ICly for everyone...)))

(OOC) Serol, Jack nor Jervis have no sworn loyalty to the Pretens. His question revolved around the fact Johnathan ordered us to go, instead of asked.

(Which is why I brought it back around lover =D)
Arik paused then continued to Serol, "Let me explain my friend. A Blood War is exactly that. When the Drachens came against my family, we were likewise unprepared. They killed two of my uncles and their families. Some of us fled to Boetrah. My father stayed and the Drachens didnt try to kill him outright; they had killed dozens of our employees and kin. I will one day have vengeance on their heads. What little I know of your doctrines, I do know this much. You are a man who will not tolerate lawlessness and chaos, yet this is exactly what becomes of wars like these. On behalf of the House of Kolendur, I personally ask you and your friends to help me in this endeavor. In return, be it money or favor, I will make recompense of that you can be assured."

Snapping out of his day dream Arelian gets up and out of the chair, instantly appraising the situation and putting a hand on Serol's newly armored shoulder. "Come now Serol, we need not any blood shed here. It seems they have already done enough between themselves as it is. I for one am interested in what the road may bring."

Serol says with some seriousness, "I serve the Firelord and his clergy. I've no wish to shed blood on this ground or in this company." he said guardedly as though even though he might not wish it, he would not let that minor inconvenience stop him if there was any more need for it.
He turned to the Paladin and said, "I have concerns traveling with this man. Any who would strike another while the hand of friendship was extended is not one I will feel comfortable having at my back, my camp or near me when I sleep. To gain back one's honor in an honor-less act is idiocy."
"I will travel with this group, however, not for the Drachens, nor for this group's sake. But that of Kessen who was a loyal companion to the end. His family and people deserve the honor I would show them."
He paused and said, "Of this war, however, I have my doubts."

"I respect that Serol, which is why I asked your opinion. Let us simply make ammends with your friend's family, help you out with your financial affairs, and then you can decide where you stand. This war is not wanted anymore then are the depredations of the goblins near Featherale, but still the situation has arisen and we men of honor must deal with it in the best manner possible. You saved Hannah and Jonathan before. Would you not do so again? I am not asking any of you to start a war with anyone. I am asking you to help me finish it if it should come to that."

Jervis frowned, this was not going well. It had come to blows Serol looked poised to strike another even with Jack's caution. It would seem he might not get his ears... yet.
Then began the talk of leaving his pony behind. The little mage jumped out of his chair, and landed impressivly softly upon the ground even though the chair was raised enough for it to be a significant drop for someone of his size.
He marched his way over to the young lord sitting smugly in his chair that had seemed to be the cause of so much of the group's disharmony. "We will ride with this one." he said pointing a bony finger directly at the man's chest.
"It will take us a day to carve the magical runes of protection into the horse's flesh." He mused softly to himself then turned his head to the chair he had been sitting at a moment ago.
"Yes," he said suddenly, "it has been a long time since we've heard the horses scream. It might be worth it to leave our pony home after all." Then suddenly he frowned and said, "That is my seat! Made for me! You had best get out of it before I come back or I will see your incorporal form flayed again."
Then as if he remembered why it was he had stood from his chair. "Since it is your horse, sir. It will need to be your hand that carves the runes. Don't worry, we can show you how. Only one horse has ever been mamed in the process...." He adds softly, "That we know of."

"What runes of protection!? You ain't touching my horse, you little crawler! You can ride in the saddlebag and that's that." Lurrin crossed his arms again and then came to his full awareness. "Wait a minute! I don't have a horse!"

Jervis frowns as if saddened by this news. "Then it would seem that our pony would not slow us down nearly so much as you walking." He returned to his seat seemingly batting something unseen from out of his way when he began climbing up to the seat again. "A pity. We were excited again for the ritual."

"We?" Lurrin was an inch away from backing down on the offer to accompany the group if it meant he had to go on talking with this guy. "I'll be renting my horse, thank you very much. Just get yourself in Arik's horse. I'm sure he won't mind..." He smirked at the knight.

"If we are to be leaving our pony behind," the gnome said, with his face shadowed within the heart of his black cloak, "then it is only right it is us that decides who we ride with."
He nods suddenly, seemingly out of place, then says, "We have decided that since it was your idea, we will ride with you."
Now it is the gnome who sits back in his seat with his arms crossed seemingly considering the matter closed. "It matters not if horse is rented or owned. We will still require you to preform the ritual before we can depart."
