Hey,
This'll be the temp thread for character gen questions and whatnot.
Bill brings up a good question about equipment. I'd offer the following advice:
I'm having you guys purchase your own equipment since we're starting at level 1. Go ahead and assume the max starting gold for your class and also assume that anything in the PHB is available to you guys. I'd remind you to do some careful planning, and to keep weather in mind. As a small island, it tends to rain a lot and get pretty stormy and it does snow in the winter....which...
Speaking of winter...to start things up we'll go ahead and use today's date. So...9 Hammer 1372.
So...keep all that in mind. And remember we're using a 32 point buy.

Can you guys tell yet that I've got nothing to do today? lol
To make it easier I decided to give ya the table with starting gold for each class:
Barbarian: 160 Bard: 160 Cleric: 200 Druid: 80 Fighter: 240 Monk: 20 Paladin: 240 Ranger: 240 Rogue: 200 Sorcerer: 120 Wizard: 120

And another good question on skills. Delkar writes:
My response was as follows:
I feel like an advice columnist.

Heh. Turns out nothing of interest is going on for a few hours...I may as well get cracking on my sheet now.

Out of curiosity, did any of you take the regional bonus for Lantan when you made your characters? I believe the option was between A)Pistol, powderhorn, and 10 bullets, or B)Heavy crossbow...with the bullets being masterwork for option A and the crossbow being masterwork for option B.
If you haven't, go ahead and do so. Pistols aren't prevalent in Lantan, but they're definitely there. Especially with so many churches and worshipers of Gond.

Actually I didn't. I looked at them, but neither seemed to fit my character concept. I thought about taking them and selling them for the 1/2 market price option it gives you... but it was my understanding that these items came to you some way other than you buying them... e.g. an item passed down to you through the familly or something... seemed kinda cold to just pawn it so I could save some coin on my pony.
Just my $.02

Eh...where you're so limited in this particular campaign...I'll give you a hidden third option. The value of most of the regional bonuses is 300 gold. Some of the regions actually give you the option of just having the 300 gold instead of the equipment option. I'll give you guys the 300 gold option in addition to those two...my gift for limiting your regional choices to just one.

I'll go for the pistols...if you could add that to my sheet...Like I said..I'm at campus now and I don't have my character sheet on me...and I can't seem to download anything from my hotmail addy from here either. I take pistols are single fire and do somewhere in the range of 1d8 to 2d8 damage like the DMG? I've never really used pistols before... I have little or no clue about them.

You start with one pistol, ten bullets, and a powderhorn. The powderhorn will last you a while, and is itself capable of creating a pretty big "boom." Pistols do 1d10 damage, are considered exotic weapons, and take a standard action to reload (so...you'll fire one turn, move and reload the next, and then fire the turn after that). The masterwork bullets give you a +1 attack modifier, of course. Though you still suffer the penalty for using them if you aren't proficient. I don't believe there are any feats that can decrease the reloading time...but I'm probably incorrect on that particular matter.

Yeah...Like I just PM'd you. I remember that Exotic Weapon Prof requires a BAB of +1 to take...and I won't have that for a while.
I think I'll just take the third option, if thats alright.

Fine by me...basically the 300 gold is enough to make a single item you own masterwork, which is what the regional bonus usually is. I figure that should be ample compensation. Probably overly so.
