[[yea pussy]] Moving to the Unconscious victim Searching inwardly for that Divine string that he called on so often. Grumbling in near inaudible tone come for the hunched dwarf. Thorgar places his hands on the wounded man Lesser Vigor
"Find Strength my son. This will bind his wounds and in time he will feel Much better."
"Shouldn't there be one more?" looking to Arik and then to the ranger.

Shernof had already lept down the hole in the floor taking the gnome with him. Arik waited for the pup's breathing to settle then nodded to the other priest, "You must be Serol. Well met friend and I wish it were under better circumstances. My brothers, the Wolves of Boetrah wait outside with food and protection. The young man will heal, the pup will not die, and if you wish to wait, the rogue will be ready to travel in a moment or two. Lord Ironstar and I are going after Shernof and your other friends. If you stay, have the young man help you with the pup and get up to our brothers who are on the road. If you and he wish to give chase, place the pup somewhere safe then follow. If there is anything I can do to assist you, let me know before I leave."
Arik knew time was slipping away, "Thorgar, move along and we will catch up."

Seing the bloodflow slow and the sinue mending the Dwarf was sure the boy would be ok.
Nodding to Arik, "He will live. Let's be about." Standing and moving to the lip in the corner.

Jervis tried his hardest to keep up with the larger man. Had the ranger been holding on to him in some fashion, he'd have been drug along the ground, no doubt. Shernof had helped him down the hole and into the dungeon, but had trusted the Gnome to fend for himself from there.
They traveled through the first large room where Jervis' spell could still be heard. Apparently it had not scared the Ghoul or managed to trick it into staying near the entrance. The ranger carefully eyed the room over. Behind them, the sounds of the other two men that had traveled with Shernof leaping down to the ground could be heard. The ranger was apparently eyeing every corner as best he could for a sign of the Ghoul. Deciding to head down the passage directly ahead of them, the same as the group had initially done when entering the underground lair, and headed down that passage. As Jervis rushed into the passage behind the larger man, he was stopped by the halting of the ranger. As Jervis looked down ahead in the darkened path with the little lantern he'd managed to grab...he discovered the reason that the ranger had stopped.
Shernof was kneeled over a body. Upon closer inspection, Jervis realized that it was in fact the body of a medium sized humanoid...probably an Elf. It was clearly Kesson, as there were no other options for the identity. Shernof looked back at the Gnome, now at eye-level after kneeling, and shook his head. "I'm sorry," was all the ranger could manage.
As Arik and Thorgar rushed into the room, Shernof stood up and unsheathed the long blade attached to his back. Then from his side he pulled a slender stick, like club. He struck it on the ground and it ignited, illuminating almost as well as Jervis' lamp. "Mage Jervis, I ask that you retrieve the priest and have him help you with your friend here. Master Jack should be strong enough to hold a rope to help you all out. You have seen enough combat this day. These men and I shall finish this for you. I owe you that for my delay."
With that, he motioned for Arik and Thorgar to follow them, and began a systematic search of the underground lair. It was easy to find him after a moment. The creature was banging on the jammed doors of the large "feeding room" the Ghouls had obviously once occupied and used as a base for their hunting. The Ghoul was enraged, and began shouting explitives in Dwarven. The racket was unsettling, to say the least. The men walked together, making sure to stay together.
There, in front of the door was the angered creature.
(((I'll let you boys decide how to finish this. You can kill him with swords and maces, try to turn him to the point that he's destroyed, or whatever else you may have at the ready for such a circumstance. The story pretty much ends with that. lol And I'm sure that between the three of you, with the injured Ghoul, someone will get the initiative jump and finish him off. I'll let you boys decide...)))

Arik stood ready, but nodded to Shernof, "The elf was your friend; vengeance is now yours as well." There was no need for heroics, just a simple parry of the creatures weakened claws, and the ranger had the thing impaled upon his blade. The ghoul fell to the floor and the men began to withdraw; whatever was behind that door didnt concern them as much as what they had left behind; a friend who had fallen and new friends who were still hurt.
Thorgar held the rear as Arik and Shernof made their way back to Kesson's body. They recovered what they could of his and each took an arm, carrying him to the hole where the newly recovered Jack and Serol were waiting, having lifted Jervis up already. Kesson's body was moved up, followed by the dwarf and Arik. Finally Shernof joined them. "Before we move on, I again offer to heal any of you who might still need it..."

Jervis was forced down the hole without much input on the matter then forced to run to keep up with the ranger as best he could. He knew why they hurried so he made no complaint. Still when the ranger stopped the small gnome pulled in air in raggid pants. It took him several minutes to understand why.
Then he saw. It was Kessen. The little gnome had seen death many times, but this time it hit home. This was not simply research, this was a friend.
Seeing the condition of the body, he did not even ask the clerics, who were only minutes behind him about healing. A necromancer recognized death. Jervis didn't even reach for his notebook. This man's passage would not be a part of his research.
Suddenly the ranger and two newcomers were off and running again. Jervis was tempted to run, but honestly, he was still struck with the observation of the dead elf and had lost more than a few steps. He knew he would not keep up should the chase last so instead he waited, the room filled by the lantern light for Serol and Jack.

There they sat in the midst of the basement. Still waiting outside were the rest of the Wolves, several mounts and a cart. Perhaps it would be large enough to haul the loot the group had uncovered. Maybe not. Though it seemed no one was thinking about that. Kesson's body was laid carefully down in the center of the room, close to Liad. The pup would live, but his master had not been as fortunate. Though the efforts had been valiant, the Ghoul had not been stopped. And for whatever madness that had driven it, he had turned on Kesson. The Elf had not been allowed to suffer and bleed to death. Instead he had been assaulted by the Ghoul in the middle of the passageway. His face was almost completely gone. Blood and muscle tissue were the only visible parts of the Elf's face. The blood from his face had leaked down across his body and now dripped slowly onto the floor of the basement. All that remained of Kesson's chiseled Wood Elf features was his mouth. Jack was up and going again. The rogue was wounded and would need healing and time, but he would survive. He was becoming gruesomely aware of the situation through silent observation. No words were required. All that was left now was to go home. (((And death strikes for the first time. See the OOC thread and I'll give you a little XP. )))
